MESSAGE BY PRESIDENT OF
MATTA
MATTA - the Malaysian
Association of Tour & Travel Agents - is proud to be jointly
organizing APeco - the Asia Pacific Ecotourism Conference APeco - in
Kota Kinabalu in October 2002 during the International Year of
Ecotourism 2002.
We believe that the future of tourism in Malaysia lies in the hands of
all of us who are in the tourism, travel and hospitality business. It is
not enough that governments enact rules and laws to protect the
environment. Private sector organisations like MATTA have a crucial role
to play in ensuring that we educate our members on the steps to take to
operate businesses profitably but at the same time with care and concern
for the environment, both natural and built.
Partnering with APO - the Asian Productivity Organisation as well as the
Ministry of Culture,
Arts and Tourism Malaysia, the National Productivity Council of Malaysia
and Ministry of Tourism, Environment, Science and Technology, Sabah,
together with Japan Ecotourism Society, we believe that this Conference
will be a landmark event in setting the stage for the
future of ecotourism in the Asia Pacific region. We are indeed pleased
that APeco2002 has also received the endorsement of The International
Ecotourism Society based in USA.
MATTA looks forward to this Conference becoming a great success and to
welcoming foreign and local delegates to the event.
