MESSAGE BY ORGANISING
CHAIRMAN

Malaysia will be
organizing the Asia Pacific Ecotourism Conference or APeco 2002 from
3rd-6th October 2002 in Kota Kinabalu.
Jointly organized by six organisations namely Malaysian Association of
Tours and Travel Agents MATTA, Ministry of Culture, Arts and Tourism
MOCAT, National Productivity Corporation NPC, Asian Productivity
Organisation APO and Ministry of Tourism,Environment, Science and
Technology Sabah MOTEST and Japan Ecotourism Society JES, the four days
conference which is expected to attract some 500 delegates will be part
of Malaysia's program during the International Year of Ecotourism
IYE2002.
The conference is expected to attract 100 JES member delegates who will
conduct field trips to evaluate the ecotours in Sabah and Sarawak, to
conduct an evaluation and thereafter to present its findings at the
conference. A.P.O an inter-governmental organization of eighteen Asian
Pacific member countries will be sponsoring some 50 delegates from 18
countries to the conference. APeco2002 has already received the
endorsement of The International Ecotourism Society TIES based Vermont,
USA and support of PATA Malaysia Chapter, Sabah Tourist Association STA,
Sabah Tourist Guides Association STGA.
Among the programs to be covered in the four days conference is the two
and half days of conference covering twenty five papers to be presented
by twenty two international speakers on ecotourism, nine half day field
trips, eight keynote addresses, welcome and farewell dinners, optional
pre and post conference tours.
There will be plenty of opportunity for networking during the welcome
and farewell dinners, nine field trips and many optional tours with both
the international and national delegates. Table counters will be set up
for buyers to meet sellers.
